British game retailer Game Station announced it legally owns the souls of 7,500 people when those individuals clicked yes to the "immortal soul" clause of the user terms and conditions agreement during recent on-line purchases.
Oops! Maybe they should have actually read the user agreement before going ahead with their on-line purchases! It seems companies can add whatever language they like to user agreements. Read more of the clause here.
This April Fool's gag has a real message for all those who are quick to say YES to on-line user agreements without really bothering to take the time to read what the agreement says.
Buyer beware!

That's a testament to all of us, we are so engulfed in what we want that we skip the little steps in between, in this case the little step of selling your soul!! Great article!
ReplyDeleteThis just shows how quick and easy it is to get involved with something out of your control. People truly believe that when they are online, everything is safe. It is just them and the computer. There is always someone watching and if your not careful...well someone just might end up owning your soul! Ha!
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely something to be worried about. So many things have user agreements now that most people think are harmless. As a group said in their class presentation, even innocent looking Facebook apps have user agreements that sometimes take more information from you than you think they would. People are so worried about getting their identities stolen while they're online, but they're forgetting that they sometimes willingly give a part of it away!
