If you think this month's launch of the Apple iPad is BIG news, wait 'til you hear about it's competitor.
Neofonie, a German company, just announced its own tablet dubbed the WePad. The WePad boasts a bigger screen, as well as a webcam, and USB ports, neither of which the iPad has.
According to Neofonie's founder and Managing Director Helmut Hoffer von Ankershoffen,
"The WePad, with its 11.6-inch screen, is powered by an Intel chip and relies on a Linux software basis which is compatible with Google's Android and all Flash application. When it hits stores starting late July, it will also boast a complete open source office package."
The price for the WePad is a bit higher, but Ankershoffen claims the difference is pretty minimal for all the extras you get versus the iPad. Personally, I think the names of the two products say it all.

This will always continue to come about. Apple has been famous over the years for their trailblazzing inventions. While other companies may begin to produce similar products, they have no chance of one, competing against the brand immage of Apple, and two, the marketing campaigns. It will only be a matter of time until apple increases the screen size, adds the extra components and then the WePad will fall from existence. I am not a big fan of the iPad but you just can't beat Apple. It truly is their game to lose.
ReplyDeleteLove competition, keeps the market growing. Looks like HP, Sony, Google and Microsoft are also getting into the pad business. Be interesting to see to what they come up with. I saw a few images of HP's pad, whew they need to head back to industrial design school, the thing is ugly. I know Microsoft has a tablet type computer coming to the market that looks rather cool. It's called the CourierYouTube link.
ReplyDeleteThe iPad is a game changer — No questions about that. Apple sets the standards and the rest play catch-up. Although the iPhonegate has let other companies see the next generation iPhone. I wonder if the guy who lost the phone still works for Apple. He has been offered a free trip to Germany where he could drink all the German beer he wants! free trip to Germany
